Visit the Duck Pond, Begonia House, award-winning Lady Norwood Rose Garden, Treehouse Visitor Information Centre, Sundial of Human Involvement, Children's Play Area and the historic Bolton Street Memorial Park, where many of the city's pioneers are buried.

Gardens open daily sunrise to sunset. Free entry. Garden tours are available by prior booking or prior request.

Space Place at Carter Observatory

40 Salamanca Rd, Kelburn, Wellington

Our planetarium offers a state of the art, digital experience that will take you on a virtual space journey from Wellington, through our Solar System and beyond.

Space Place also explains the significance of Matariki and the role of the star cluster for the Māori New Year, and the importance of the stars in Polynesian and Māori navigation.

Zealandia

Just a 10-minute drive from downtown Wellington you'll find Zealandia. Hidden in a suburban valley, this project aims to return a 225 hectare section of bush to its pre-human state. Take a walk and hear the songs of the flourishing native bird population. 

 

Wellington Cable Car

280 Lambton Quay, Wellington

The Cable Car is a Wellington icon. It runs from Lambton Quay up to Kelburn, where there’s a lookout and cafe, the Cable Car Museum, and Space Place at Carter Observatory. With interactive displays, a state of the art digital planetarium and historic telescopes, it's a virtual voyage to the stars.  Come back down to earth (and the city) through the beautiful Botanic Garden.

Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

55 Cable St,Wellington

Experience the whole of New Zealand in one building! Te Papa is New Zealand's bold, innovative and interactive national museum. Explore the great treasures and stories of this country, its unique natural environment, Maori culture and taonga (treasures), dynamic art heritage, and its fascinating history. Te Papa is located on Wellington's spectacular waterfront. Open 10am to 6pm every day except Christmas Day. General admission is free.
